I grew up in Brimfield (on Route 20, west of Sturbridge), but my grandmother, Evelyn Leake from Leicester, was related in some way to the owners of this florist. I remember visiting the shop and their house on the same site in the late 70s/early 80s when my grandparents would head back to the Worcester area from Florida for their annual visit. They were our family florist, although we only purchased flowers when someone died.

My great grandmother, Mary Lou Leake Pond Snyder, married Arthur Snyder sometime in the 1940's. Her first husband had died and bequeathed her Pond Lumber in Auburn. Together, she and Arthur were a wealthy but modest couple. They went to a Cadillac dealership one day, he in his bib overalls and she in a house dress. Arthur had the cash in his pocket to buy that new car, but the salesmen snubbed them because of the way the were dressed. So they went to the Lincoln dealer, bought the top line Lincoln and drove it back to the Caddy dealer -- just to let them know they shoud treat people better. She is also the one who commissioned a family genealogy, only to cancel it when they discovered Morgan the Pirate hanging from the family tree. Hence my son got his name, Morgan the (Navy) Pilot.

Arthur Snyder was my great grandfather. His son, Herman Snyder married my grandmother, Mary (Bennett) Snyder. They had four children: Deborah (Snyder) Nordstom, Mark Snyder, Maryann (Snyder) Burkhart, and Pamela (Snyder) Neilson. Deborah is my mother.
