Epitaphs from the Cemetary of Worcester Common

cover of book

With occasional notes, references, and an index

Written by W.S. Barton

Printed by Henry J. Howland, 171 Main St.

This is a copy of a book I have, from 1864. I believe it is free from copyright restrictions. I've scanned all the pages and placed them online for research purposes.

The copy of this book I own is missing the title page, and the last page of the index, for letters O to Z. I ran the pages through an OCR program, but to preserve accuracy the original scan of each page appears alongside the converted text so you can verify there are no errors.

I believe the book speaks for itself. At some point, I would like to enter a small history of the common here. The graves were buried over at one point to allow for the trains to run through the center of the common, and then later exhumed and moved to a new spot on the common (so don't show up in Worcester expecting the locations mentioned in this book to be accurate). As of 2004, work has begun on transforming the Commons once more, who know what will turn up this time around.

Futher information on this subject can be found at the Worcester Historical Society.. I'm not a member, and don't know much about what they have, but I'm sure it's more than I have.

This is the total extent of what I have on cemetaries in Worcester. I don't have a list of graves from any other cemetaries available, (or know where to find such a list) so please don't ask.

Basically, if you don't see it, I don't know.
